FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions About Figure 8 Environmental Solutions.

Welcome to our frequently asked questions section. We have arranged our FAQs by industry. You may find that the FAQs in other industries, besides your own, may be helpful.

Frequently Asked Questions – Dairy Operations:

  • How can your dairy system/solutions help me meet the new requirements of achieving methane reduction of California’s SB 1383 Act?

Our methane biogas boosting system makes anaerobic digestion significantly more profitable, and nutrient recovery system reduces the methane producing load going to your lagoon. Either with or without anaerobic digestion we will customize a system for your farm that will help you get 2030 compliant right now.

  • Do your dairy systems/solutions help reduce salt loading in effluent lagoon water.

Yes. We can custom design a solution to reduce the total salt loading in the effluent water with or without Anaerobic Digestion.

  • Do your dairy systems/solutions increase Methane biogas output from an Anaerobic Digester?

Yes. Our solutions are designed to provide the highest level of Volatile Solid feed stock to your anaerobic digester. Our energy efficient processes have proven to boost methane biogas by up to 40%.

  • Do your dairy systems/solutions reduce Methane emission without the need for an Anaerobic Digester?

Yes. We have proven the ability to recover most of the nutrients from a manure stream, which greatly reduces the loading and volume heading to a lagoon. Reducing load and volume in a lagoon results in a significant reduction in methane emissions.

  • Is more processing required for the nutrients recovered to sell as fertilizer?

The nutrient cake can be used as is, or further processing can be done if desired. We work with the farmer to decide the most profitable path for them.

  • Do your systems qualify for grants and other funding?

Yes. Our solutions and equipment can be used alone or as part of State, Federal and other grants, as well as cost sharing funding programs.

  • Do you buy the excess products that are not required to stay on-site for bedding or fertilizing?

Yes. In most cases, the excess straw fibers and nutrient cake will be purchased by Figure 8 for reselling to our other clients.  We desire to create a completely sustainable cycle.

  • Can your dairy systems solutions be used on flush dairies?

Yes. The large volume of water produced by flush dairies are not an issue. Our solutions are custom designed to work with all dairy operations.

  • Can your dairy system solutions reduce ammonia?

Yes. We have a solution to reducing dissolved nitrogen sources when your farm has this need.

  • Can your dairy system solutions help me recover bedding faster?

Yes, Our state of the art bedding and large fiber removal system can be a stand-alone system or part of a more complex recovery program on your farm. It not only recovers bedding without the need for composting making it ready immediately, it is one of the keys to providing higher volatile solids to digester and more nutrients to be recovered and sold.

  • Can your dairy system solutions help me reduce sand?

Our systems will be designed for the most efficient bedding related or environmental sand removal from your dairy.

Frequently Asked Questions – For Farming Operations

  • Do your soil management solutions reduce water consumption?

Yes. Our solutions help maintain proper soil aggregate structure which result in high yields while consuming less water. No more crust or wasted water running off your field.

  • Will your soil management solution help with compliance regulations?

Yes. Non-visible pollutants like pesticides, herbicides, phosphorous or nitrates will remain on your field where you wanted them and will not be present in your tail water. You will also be able to grow crops and remain in compliance with the reduced water use regulations of the  Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA).

  • Do your soil management solutions reduce mechanical tilling requirements?

Yes. Maintaining proper soil aggregate structure throughout the entire growing cycle, will not allow clods to form or the ground to seal up with silt. Therefore, mechanical tillage requirements prior to future plantings will be reduced dramatically.

  • Do your soil management solutions reduce the amount nutrients required?

Maintaining proper soil structure allows the nutrients to move into root zone with ease. Which can lead to reductions in the amount of nutrients added because there is no loss in field runoff.

  • Do your soil management solutions help preserve topsoil?

Absolutely. Plentiful and healthy topsoil is an important part of sustainable farming practices. Our solutions will help keep your topsoil and your profits on your farm where they belong.

  • Can your soil management solutions help me with stormwater compliance?

We have over 20 years specializing in stormwater compliance best management practices and will design user friendly solutions for you to remain in compliance.

  • Can your soil management solutions reduce the amount of topsoil I loose during harvesting?

Yes. By maintaining proper soil structure and reducing crusting or soil sealing, crops will be harvested clean with very little unwanted soil sticking to the crops. This is especially true with root-crops. Not only will the crops grow better with less water, but you will not waste money hauling dirt to the process plant, or waste time and money cleaning the crops and dealing with settling ponds at your process plants.

Frequently Asked Questions – Industrial Operations

  • Can your liquid solids separation process thicken sludge to a point where it can pass a paint filter test in order to be landfilled at a municipal solid waste landfill?

Yes. We utilize both chemical and mechanical techniques to achieve the desired water content to pass a landfill paint filter requirement.

  • Do your liquid solids separation solutions require mechanical equipment?

Every site has different fluids and requirements. Therefore, some sites may require mechanical processes.

Frequently Asked Questions – Food Processing Operations

  • Do your solutions help me reduce water consumption?

Yes, recycling and reusing is possible with our solutions. Customized systems for your operation can include processes that will allow plant water to be reused for other needs in the process. Some plant water can be efficiently clean allowing it to remain in use longer without the need to recharge the system.

  • Do your solutions help me recycle water?

Yes, Recycling and reusing is possible with our solutions. Customized systems for your operation can include processes that will allow plant water to be reused for other needs in the process. Some plant water can be efficiently clean allowing it to remain in use longer without the need to recharge the system.

  • Do your solutions reduce effluent loading of discharge water?

Our water treatment systems will be designed to address the problems on your site, including high sediment or constituent loading in effluent.

  • How does your system help me with the reduction of harmful bacteria?

Most bacteria are attached to the solids, so the more efficient and complete the water clarification system, the less likely you will have bacterial concerns.

  • Do your solutions help me solidify waste sludge?

Every site has different fluids and requirements. Therefore, some sites may require chemical and or mechanical processes to properly solidify waste.
